On the breaking of 18 and 19 centuries there started with searching of substance which could do a pain more lower and surgeons and dentists could perform the best work and a patient could be protect from an unbearable pain sometimes. This substance is called anaesthetic.

Four years later ether was used during complicated operation in The USA in Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. The local doctor William Thomas Green Morton gained recognition for it. The cancer was removed from the jaw – bone of a patient during this operation. In addition, this year the doctor Liston from University College Hospital in London made the first painless amputation of a leg he used ether too. Even if the others started to use this narcotic, it began to use rather slowly. The deal of ether that was needed and its nasty smell leaded to it that Sir James Young Simpson reason was among others so this that many doctors took this using as non – ethical.

A great professor from Edinburgh started to search some other alternatives. After various experiments, he got an opinion that this substance could be chloroform. He started to use it to reduce a pain during childbirth. He took it as more pleasant and with the same effect like ether. When the Queen Victoria chose this narcotic during childbirth of prince Leopold in1853 and during the birth of princess Beatrice in 1857, again this praxis became to be more common between the middle and high class.

In 80 of 19 century, aestheticism became to be a standard praxis in Europe and in America. The middle class of patients who were used to have their medical care at home started to use hospitals in a case of operation. These way hospitals started to change from charitable institutions on the institutions providing services to its customers. The using of narcotic became to be routine matters so their application started to confide nurses or students of medicine in many cases.
